On May 11, 2022 a jury found Defendant Michael Britton guilty of the second-degree murder of Omar Abdallah.

On October 9, 2017, a verbal argument broke out between the defendant and Mr. Abdallah in an autobody shop in East Oakland, over a dice game. The defendant drew a gun and held it at his side. Mr. Abdallah, who was unarmed, did not back down and pushed the defendant onto the hood of a car before backing up six feet from him.

The defendant then got up, and shot the victim twice. Mr. Abdallah fell to the ground, but the defendant walked up to him and shot him a third time as he lay on the ground. Mr. Abdallah died that night at Highland Hospital.

The defendant fled the scene and was later apprehended by law enforcement in Nevada.

The jury also found the defendant guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The defendant is expected to be sentenced on July 27, in Department 3, where he faces 40 years to life in prison.

DDA Jason Quinn prosecuted the case, with aide from Victim Witness Advocate Stephanie Lynch and Inspector Randy Brandwood.
