Alameda County District Attorney’s Office Joins Forces With Narcotics Anonymous To Support The 3rd Annual Bay Area Convention

Oakland, August 17, 2023 – The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office proudly announces its support of the upcoming 3rd Annual Bay Area Convention of Narcotics Anonymous and underscores the commitment of the District Attorney’s Office to address the critical issue of drug addiction and its impact on both individuals and communities. The convention will be held at the Oakland Marriott City Center, 1001 Broadway, August 17 – 20. Registration is still open.

Narcotics Anonymous, a global fellowship dedicated to helping individuals overcome drug addiction, provides a lifeline for those struggling with substance abuse. This convention serves as a vital platform for attendees to share their experiences, seek support, and embark on a journey toward recovery. The District Attorney’s Office recognizes the profound link between drug abuse and criminal activities and is dedicated to breaking this cycle through collaborative efforts.

“The connection between drug abuse and criminal behavior cannot be ignored,” stated Alameda County District Attorney, Pamela Price. “Addressing addiction head-on is not only a humanitarian endeavor but also a strategic approach to reducing crime rates and making our communities safer.”

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office will actively participate in the convention by hosting an informational booth that will serve as a resource hub for attendees seeking governmental resources for addiction and recovery. The DA’s office will also be participating on a panel regarding recovery and professional/governmental resources and supports. Included on the panel will be Mas Morimoto from the DA’s Collaborative Court team, Ebony James, Victim Witness Advocate and Eddie Morris, an Employment Specialist with the DA’s Family Justice Center. The panel takes place on Friday August 18th, from 12:00pm – 2:00pm.

The 3rd Annual Bay Area Convention of Narcotics Anonymous is an opportunity for individuals, families, and communities to come together and raise awareness about the challenges posed by drug addiction. By providing individuals with the tools and support needed to overcome their addiction, we empower them to regain control over their lives and make positive choices. This, in turn, contributes to a decrease in drug-related crimes and the overall demand for illegal substances.

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is proud to stand alongside Narcotics Anonymous in supporting this event, demonstrating a shared commitment to creating a more resilient and safer community for everyone.

22nd anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).

April 2023 marks the official 22nd anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Sexual Assault Awareness Month calls attention to the fact that sexual violence is widespread and impacts every person in the community. SAAM aims to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it. On April 7, 2023, Dublin California’s Parks Reserve Forces Training Area (PRFTA)hosted the Rock Against Rape Concert in support of “Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month” at the PRFTA Track area.

The concert featured the 191st Band of the West playing music from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and current rock hits! Various community outreach partners, joined in harmony to support Rock Against Rape Concert, which included members representing our Alameda County District Attorney’s Office Victim Witness Unit, Livermore’s Tri Valley Haven, Hively, and the Family Violence Law Center.

These vital community agencies engaged in unison with attendees listening to stories and sharing our various resources offered to the community and military. PRFTA and the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Program Office will continue to host events throughout the month of April to raise awareness of Sexual Assault and Harassment. The history of Sexual Assault Awareness month has shown us that, no matter what, those who want to end sexual assault and abuse will always find ways to advocate for awareness and prevention. Looking forward, with community based events such as PRFTA’s Rock Against Rape Concert, we can be sure that Sexual Assault Awareness month community based events such as these will continue to grow, bringing even more awareness and reaching even more audiences with the message that a world free of sexual assault and abuse is possible.
