Defendant Major Willis Charged with Felony Murder During a Carjacking

OAKLAND, CA — The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office announces that Defendant Major Willis has been charged with the murder of Mr. Kon Woo Fung, near Little Saigon of Oakland.

On July 17, 2022, around 11:00 a.m. at the intersection of E. 22nd Street and 13th Avenue in Oakland, Mr. Fung, 52, an Uber driver, was waiting in his car when he was approached by two individuals. The two individuals ordered him out of his car. When he did not, a shot was fired, striking Mr. Fung. He died from his injuries.

“Mr. Fung was senselessly and violently attacked while doing his job. His death has rocked the Little Saigon community,” said DA O’Malley. “Our hearts and condolences go out to his family, friends and community.”

Defendant Willis has been charged with Penal Code 187(a), murder, and felony 215(a), attempted carjacking. The charges include a felony murder allegation given that murder occurred during an attempted carjacking. He has also been charged with a sentencing enhancement for being armed with a firearm.

The second suspect, a juvenile, has been identified and charged in Juvenile Court. The investigation continues, including attempts to locate the driver of the get-away vehicle and a potential additional passenger.
