On Nov. 23, 2021 a jury found defendant Tyler Underwood guilty of second-degree murder for the DUI-related crash that killed Darren Walker. Underwood was also found guilty of three other felonies: child abuse, driving under the influence causing injury with priors, and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or over causing injury with priors.

Three defendants face murder, robbery charges

OAKLAND – The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office announces charges have been filed in the attempted murder involving a former Oakland Police captain, Ersie Joyner.

On October 21, 2021, Joyner was at the Chevron gas station located at 17th and Castro Street in Oakland. As he was pumping gas, a total of three suspects approached him to rob him.

A STATEMENT ON THE VERDICT OF THE KYLE RITTENHOUSE CASE Nov 19, 2021

In August 2020, 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse shot three men, killing two of them during a protest against police brutality in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Anthony Huber, 26, and Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, were killed and Gaige Grosskreutz was injured.

He argued self defense. A jury found him not guilty of all counts.

Jury convicts Albert Jones Jr. in 2016 murder-for-hire plot.

On November 18, 2021, a jury convicted defendant Albert Jones Jr. of the first-degree murder of Alexander Jacob Martinez, 27, in a murder-for-hire plot. The jury also found true the special circumstance that Jones committed the murder for financial gain.

Jury convicts defendant of first-degree murder for 2020 fatal shooting.

On November 12, 2021, a jury found defendant Danny Webb Jr. guilty of premeditated, first-degree murder of Justin Esco, 25.

The defendant was also found guilty of three additional counts of premeditated, attempted first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle causing great bodily injury or death, carrying a loaded weapon, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. He faces over 70 years to life in prison.

PEOPLE VS BRYON REED AND KEJUAN WIGGINS Nov 10, 2021

On November 9, 2021, a jury found defendant Byron Reed guilty of the second-degree murder of Shuo Zeng 34.

The jury also found co-defendant Kejuan Wiggins guilty of robbery and causing great bodily. On November 10, 2021, Kejuan Wiggins was convicted of voluntary manslaughter.

Zeng was working at a Starbucks coffee shop on Mountain Boulevard in the Montclair district of Oakland on the morning of December 31, 2019. As he was working, Wiggins snatched his laptop from him, and fled into an awaiting vehicle.

Beware of Scammers Impersonating PG&E Representatives

PG&E is warning customers about a rise in imposter scams. Imposters claiming to be from PG&E may contact customers via call, text, email, or in-person and demand immediate payment to avoid service disconnection. Imposters may tell the customer that their bill is past due and their service will be shut off within an hour if payment is not made. Calls from imposters may display PG&E on caller ID.

ALAMEDA COUNTY DA SETTLES CIVIL LAWSUIT AGAINST YEEZY APPAREL COMPANIES Nov 8, 2021

OAKLAND,CA -- Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley announced today that her office, together with three other district attorneys in the state, settled a consumer protection lawsuit against Yeezy Apparel LLC and Yeezy LLC, California companies engaged in the online sales of sneakers and clothing. The complaint alleges that the companies engaged in unlawful business practices by failing to ship items to customers in a timely manner.

“No one wants to wait a long time for their online order to arrive. The law requires sellers to deliver consumer products within a reasonable period of time, which is, by default, no more than 30 days, or take additional steps to keep the customer informed and make him or her whole,” District Attorney O’Malley said. “When companies fail to follow the law, my office will take steps to ensure they do.”

Statement from Nancy E. O’Malley on the passing of Supervisor Wilma Chan Nov 3, 2021

Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and colleagues of Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan.

Supervisor Chan was a north star for so many important issues that served the vulnerable in our community. She was a champion, for example, of All In Alameda County, which addresses food insecurity and address issues of poverty. Her influence and commitment to her community and Alameda County will be greatly missed.
