On May 17, 2021 a jury found defendant Joseph Morales guilty of misdemeanor vandalism for an incident that occurred Nov. 20, 2020 in San Leandro.

At around 3:47 a.m. on Nov. 20, 2020, two victims living in San Leandro woke up to the sound of something on their front screen door. The couple, a man and woman, got out of bed to investigate. As they did, two large river rocks from their front yard came crashing through their bedroom window – one landing on the floor and the other on their bed.

The male victim looked out the window and saw the defendant, his son Joseph Morales.

Their daughter ran outside and saw a white van drive away, later identified as her brother’s van.

Surveillance video from the home captured Morales walking up to the house and throwing two rocks at his father’s truck parked in front of the house—one hitting the passenger side window and door. His father’s truck parked up the street also had a shattered windshield.

The video also captures Morales throwing rocks at the house, including the two river rocks through the bedroom window, and then fleeing up the street.

San Leandro Police officers responded to the call about the vandalism, and later located and arrested Morales on Nov. 21, 2020.

Deputy District Attorney John Pricco tried the case.
