Suspect also charged in earlier 1st degree robbery & assault

Oakland, CA- Alameda County DA O’Malley today filed special circumstances murder and multiple serious felony charges against Teaunte Bailey, 26, in connection with crimes committed on two different dates in Oakland, CA.

On March 9, 2021, the defendant assaulted and robbed 75-year old Pak Ho as he took his regular morning walk through his Adams Point neighborhood. In the course of the robbery, the defendant shoved Mr. Ho to the ground. His head hit the pavement and he suffered a traumatic head injury and brain damage. Mr. Ho succumbed to his injuries on March 11th. When the Oakland Police located the defendant later in the day, he recklessly fled in a car through busy Oakland streets but was eventually apprehended.

The defendant is also charged with robbery and assault from a February 19th 2021 crime. It is alleged that the defendant broke into a senior living apartment, violently shoved the 72-year-old victim, robbed him of his phone and stole numerous items from the home.

The criminal complaint charges the defendant with special circumstances murder as well as multiple felonies and special allegations, including crimes against elders and crimes committed while out on bail or own recognizance. The defendant was held to answer for robbery after a preliminary hearing in San Francisco Superior Court on February 8th, 2021 but was released to home supervision. He also has suffered multiple prior felony convictions, as alleged in the complaint.

The case is being handled by the DA’s Special Response Team, created last month after the recent uptick in crimes against Asian Americans. A copy of the criminal complaint and the declarations of probable cause are attached to this release. The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on March 12, 2021.
