On February 16th, 2021, a jury convicted Defendant, Jeffrey Anderson, of two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, one count of firing from a vehicle, one count of firing into an occupied vehicle, and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm, in connection with a shooting that occurred in the area of 85th and Plymouth Streets in Oakland.

On May 8, 2020, members of the Oakland Police Department Ceasefire Unit were conducting surveillance of Defendant and his associate Ershell Love, based on ongoing intelligence. Officers were observing Defendant and Love driving slowly through a residential neighborhood in East Oakland. At approximately 7:57pm, Officers heard multiple gunshots coming from a location in which Defendant and Love had been observed driving. Officers responded to the area of 85th & Plymouth and found evidence of a gunfight in the intersection between Defendant’s vehicle and a third party who was in a separate car. Officers immediately began efforts to locate Defendant and Love. Approximately 15 minutes later, Officers observed Defendant and Love in a different getaway car and stopped and detained both individuals. Two semi-automatic firearms that matched ballistics evidence at the scene were recovered from the getaway car. Further crime scene investigation indicated that between 15 and 17 shots had been fired in the middle of a public street as part of this gunfight. The case against Ershell Love remains pending.

The case was prosecuted by DDA John Ullom with assistance from DA Inspector Eric Milina, and Oakland Police Department lead investigators Officers Blake Stephens and Chris Marie.

Sentencing has been set for March 24, 2021, in front of the Honorable Allen Hymer.
