PEOPLE V RONYAE HAYWOOD AND ANGEL SHAVERS

On Nov. 30, 2021, defendant Ronyae Haywood was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of Duane Henry Palmer Jr and Tyler Dalton Kline.

Defendant Angel Shavers and Haywood were both convicted of offering an assault weapon for sale.

On March 13, 2020 the defendants met with a group of men in San Leandro to sell an assault rifle. The deal for the gun was set up between defendant Shavers and Mr. Palmer. Mr. Palmer had met Shavers in her capacity as a saleswoman for cellphones. Apparently, their interaction with one another quickly progressed into negotiating a purchase and exchange of guns.

As evidenced from the text message conversation between Palmer and Shavers, Palmer was to obtain an AK-47 style assault rifle, which she sent a picture of, in exchange for a handgun, $300 and an ounce of marijuana. The exchange did not go as planned and after defendant Haywood put the gun in Mr. Palmer’s trunk, Mr. Palmer drove off. Defendant Haywood pulled out another concealed handgun he had on him and shot ten times at the vehicle, killing Mr. Palmer, the driver, and Mr. Kline, who was sitting behind the driver.

Besides the two counts of second-degree murder with use of a firearm, Haywood was also convicted of shooting at an occupied vehicle causing death and being an unlawful person in possession of a separate firearm.

The case was prosecuted by DDA Matt Gaidos with the assistance of Inspector Randy Brandwood and DA Victim Witness Advocates Nicole Santos, Sarah Angelo, and Marina Hammergren.
