PEOPLE V SEAN JETTER

On August 10, 2021, a jury found defendant Sean Jetter, 58, guilty of 12 counts including aggravated sexual assault of a child, sodomy of a child under 10 years old and oral copulation of a child under 10 years old.

The defendant met John Doe’s mother on a dating website. Doe was the youngest of his siblings, which ranged in age from 4 years old to 13 years old. John Doe’s mother and the defendant were married within a year, where he became the step-father to Doe and his siblings. The entire family then moved into the defendant’s home in Hayward.

The defendant initially started to physically abuse John Doe, who never told his mother about the abuse. The physical abuse quickly escalated to sexual abuse, starting when Doe was 4 years old. The sexual abuse was frequent and occurred when his mother was away at work and his siblings were sleeping. Doe kept the sexual abuse secret because of the defendant’s threats to hurt him or kill his family if he ever told anyone.

The continuous sexual abuse of John Doe occurred between the ages of 4 and 9 years old, ultimately stopping when John Doe told the defendant he would tell someone if the sexual abuse did not stop. John Doe’s mother and the defendant divorced in 2015 when Doe was 13 years old. John Doe kept the sexual abuse a secret, finally disclosing when he was 16 years old.

He is expected to be sentenced on Sept 21. DDA Colleen Clark prosecuted the case, with assistance from Victim-Witness Advocate Jenifer Mello.
