People v Eljarod Lawson

On February 27, 2018, a jury Defendant Eljarod Lawson was convicted of forced oral copulation, forcible rape and sodomy.

On September 18, 2007, 21-year-old Jane Doe was walking down 21st Ave near Marin Way in Oakland when Defendant Lawson began following her in his car. He came up behind Jane Doe, grabbed her by the neck and hair, punched her in the face, and then forced her into his car.

Defendant Lawson drove to 25th Ave and E. 9th St and forced her to perform oral sex on him, then raped and sodomized her. During this time Jane Doe said Defendant Lawson penetrated her anus with his finger as well.

Thereafter, the Defendant Lawson pushed her out of the car and Jane Doe ran to an auto body shop and called the police. She was able to provide partial license plate that came back to match a car Defendant Lawson had been detained in three years earlier.

Defendant Lawson faces a sentences of 24 years in state prison when he is sentenced in April 2018.

The case was prosecuted by DDA Amanda Chavez with the assistance of DA Inspector Sheralyn Padua and Victim Witness Advocate Hedy Mitlo.
