Felony Charges Filed Against Police Officer

OAKLAND, CA – Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley announced her office has filed charges against Oakland Police Officer Ryan Walterhouse alleging two felony counts of conspiracy to obstruct justice and one misdemeanor count of engaging in an act of prostitution. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 2pm in Department 502 of the Hayward Hall of Justice.

The criminal charges in the matter stem from an in-depth investigation that began with allegations of criminal wrongdoing by Defendant Walterhouse. Once this information surfaced, the Oakland Police Department immediately notified the District Attorney's Office and this Office advised and consulted in the investigation.

From the moment the information was brought to the attention of the authorities, both the District Attorney’s Office and the Oakland Police Department took very seriously the nature of the conduct and the allegations. We would like to assure the community that this office will listen to and thoroughly investigate complaints of criminal wrongdoing committed by civilians and law enforcement alike. To victims and witnesses, we emphasize that your voice will be heard and that you should come forward to report criminal conduct.

This case is now pending and we will not be making any further comments at this time.
