People v Jesus Joseph Aromin

Following a jury verdict on June 17, 2016, defendant Jesus Joseph Aromin pled guilty to a felony count of assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury as well as a misdemeanor count of committing a lewd act in public.

On October 11, 2015, 7-year-old Laura Doe and her mother went to see the evening showing of a children’s movie at the Regal Cinema in Oakland’s Jack London Square. Shortly after the movie began, the defendant entered the nearly-empty theater and sat directly next to Laura Doe.

Within minutes of his arrival, Laura Doe felt a warm hand underneath her bottom. After a witness seated behind Laura Doe alerted her mother that Defendant Aromin was acting strange next to Laura Doe, her mother took Laura Doe and moved seats away from Defendant Aromin, causing him to leave the theater.

This case was prosecuted by DDA Adam Maldonado with assistance from DA Inspector Tom Cleary and Victim-Witness Advocate Stephanie Bernaola.
