People v Jan Van Dusen

On June 19, 2014, a jury found Jan Van Dusen guilty of animal neglect and cruelty. On October 27, 2011, Oakland Animal Services rescued 93 live cats, two dogs, and 11 deceased cats from defendant’s home in West Oakland. Veterinarians testified that all of the live cats were needlessly suffering based on the dangerous and dirty conditions inside the house, and that all the cats needed varying degrees of medical attention. The defendant will be sentenced on July 25, 2014. The case was prosecuted by Timothy Burr Jr. with assistance DA Inspector Harry Hu.
