Defendant charged with murder

NEWARK, CA — Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley announces that charges have been filed against a man accused of a revenge killing for the death of his daughter.

Defendant Louie Sixto Lopez, was charged Monday with the murder of Reynaldo Cantu, 40. The defendant blamed Mr. Cantu’s son for the death of his 16-year-old daughter, who died in October.

The defendant, who had a gun in his hand, confronted the victim, and asked where his son was. The defendant stated that his son had killed his daughter, and shot the victim twice. The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition to the Penal Code 187(a) murder charge, the defendant also faces Penal Code 12022.53(d) gun use enhancement.

The defendant is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday December 7 at 9 a.m. in Department 702 at the East County Hall of Justice.
