Alameda County District Attorney’s Office Takes Decisive Action Against Oakland Man Suspected in Series Of Bank Robberies

District Attorney Pamela Price Charges Robberies and Gun Enhancements

Oakland, CA. August 2, 2023 – The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has taken decisive action in response to a series of bank robberies that rattled the City of Oakland. Defendant Dwight Belton, a 63-year-old Oakland resident, was arrested on July 26, 2023, and is charged with two counts of robbery, with two gun enhancements. Mr. Belton is facing a possible sentence of thirty (30) years.

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office’s prosecution comes after the Oakland Police Department successfully uncovered crucial evidence linking Mr. Belton to a series of bank robberies and attempted robberies. His method involved entering various banks, displaying a firearm to the tellers, and demanding money from bank employees. While he occasionally masked his identity with a disguise of sunglasses and a mask, surveillance footage played a crucial role in identifying the suspect, recognizable by his distinct limp.
