Robbery Attempt leads to Defendant Being Charged with Attempted Murder

FREMONT – Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley announced that today Zain Qureishi has been charged with four felony counts, including attempted murder.

On Saturday, November 12, 2022 at approximately 1:18 p.m., Fremont Police Services responded to several calls reporting a subject had been shot near School Street and Bodily Avenue. Fremont PD responded to the scene and provided medical aid to the victim along with Fremont Fire Department. The victim was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive.

The Defendant has been identified as Zain Qureishi, 24.

Prior to the attempted robbery the victim was contacted by the Defendant, claiming to be a photographer. Qureishi set up a meeting with the victim at Niles Community Park in Fremont. Qureishi attempted to rob the victim at gunpoint, a struggle ensued, and the victim was shot in the stomach. Qureishi then puts the gun to the victim’s head. Shortly after Qureishi fled.

Qureishi was reported by witnesses to have fled the scene in a vehicle south on Mission Boulevard. Fremont PD officers located the vehicle, and a pursuit was initiated. Qureishi then crashed into a building near Ohlone College. Police recovered the gun used in the crime.

Defendant Qureishi is charged with four felony counts, including Penal Code 187/664 – attempted murder, Penal Code 211/664 – attempted robbery, Penal Code 30605(a) – possession of an assault weapon, and Vehicle Code 2800.2 – evading a police officer.
