Meet DA Nancy E. O'Malley

People v Danny Hogg


On June 7th, 2018 a jury found Danny Hogg guilty of first degree murder in the killing of of Hector Arturo Barrera Rodriguez.

On June 9, 2016, at approximately 10pm, Hector Arturo Barrera-Rodriguez was sitting in the right front passenger seat of his friend's vehicle parked at the curb of Penniman Ave and 38th Ave in Oakland. The defendant walked by the vehicle and after passing by for a second time, the defendant turned back and went up to the open passenger side window where the victim was seated, removed a loaded .38 revolver from his pocket and attempted to rob the victim. The defendant positioned the gun into the window and pointed it at the victim's head. In reaction, the victim raised both hands to defend himself from the gun in his face. The defendant shot the victim in the face and fled after his failed robbery attempt.

Surveillance cameras from the nearby liquor store captured the defendant's movements before and after the shooting. DA Inspector James Morris and Audio/Video Specialist Vicki Long were instrumental in the prosecution of the case.
