People v Kalonji Sandre Edwards

On September 23, 2015, a jury found Kalonji Sandre Edwards guilty of first degree residential robbery, criminal threats, and for violating a restraining Order. His accomplice, Denzel Green, pled guilty as charged on the final day of the trial.

Defendant Edwards and the victim knew each other, having previously been in a relationship together. On June 23, 2015, Defendant Edwards went to the victim's residence in Livermore around 2 AM and demanded money that the victim owed him. The victim offered a partial payment and went inside her apartment. Defendant Edwards forced his way in, and locked the door behind him. He threatened to kill the victim, and proceeded to ransack her apartment. There was a knock at the door, and Defendant Green let in his accomplice Denzel Green to the victim's apartment, and ordered him to look around for anything valuable.

Defendant Edwards and Green take the victim's ID, bank card, keys, jewelry, iPhone and other miscellaneous items. At the time of this offence, Defendant Edwards was on probation for committing acts of domestic violence against the victim and other women.

Defendant Edwards is scheduled to be sentenced on October 30. Green will also be charged for his involvement in the crimes on that date. The case was prosecuted by DDA Matt Gaidos with assistance from Victim-Witness Advocate Nicole Santos.
