Meet DA Nancy E. O'Malley

People v Ali Asghar Kimia

On October 14, 2015, a jury found Defendant Ali Asghar Kimia guilty of attempted murder, carjacking, robbery, elder abuse, and assault with a deadly weapon along with various clauses for great bodily injury, personal use of a deadly weapon, and vulnerable victim. During the sanity phase of the trial, the jury determined that Defendant Kimia was sane at the time that he committed these crimes.

On January 26, 2010, Defendant Ali Asghar Kimia strangled his seventy-two year old victim, and left him unconscious in the middle of the street in Hayward. Defendant Kimia drove away with the victim’s wallet and car. A few minutes later, Defendant Kimia returned to the scene of the crime to kill the victim. He snuck up on the victim from behind, and proceeded to strangle him again.

An independent witness told Defendant Kimia to stop, and he refused. The witness threatened to call the police, and Defendant Kimia again fled in the victim’s car. Four days later, he was arrested in Oakland while driving the victim’s car.

In late January 2016, Defendant Ali Asghar Kimia was sentenced to 28 years to life in prison for these crimes. The case was prosecuted by DDA Briggitte Lowe with assistance from DA Inspector Jad Jadallah and Victim-Witness Advocate Dena Aindow.
