Meet DA Nancy E. O'Malley

People v Robert Grandville Kelso

On October 28, 2015, a jury found Robert Grandville Kelso guilty of attempted contacting a minor with intent to commit sex crime, of attempted sending harmful matter to a minor and of attempted arranging sexual meeting with a minor.

On April 24, 2014, Defendant posted an ad on Craigslist to meet a young female. Detective Lydon with the Alameda County Sherriff’s Office, in an undercover capacity, responded as a 14 year old female. Their email exchange lasted seven days. The defendant sent sexually explicit and obscene emails during this period.

On April 30, 2014, they agreed to meet near Castro Valley High School at around 7:00 pm. When the defendant arrived at around 7:05 pm, deputy sheriffs placed him under arrest. A search of the defendant’s phone revealed dozens of sexually explicit text messages referencing minors. A search of the defendant’s computers revealed photographs, search results, websites and videos depicting young pubescent and adolescent females.

The case was prosecuted by DDA Christopher Chin with assistance from DA Inspectors Gus Galindo and Michael Carter.
