DA’s Office Celebrates 2015 Bike to Work Day

Today, some of our staff at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office opted for a two-wheel commute in celebration of the Bay Area's Bike to Work Day 2015.

The DA's Office is a proud member of Alameda County's Sustainability Committee and embracing the Bike to Work initiative is just one of the ways in which we are committed to reducing our footprint and improving the health of our employees.

The benefits of commuting to work by bike are numerous. There are significant health and economic benefits (that include saving on fuel and parking costs, and improving cardiovascular health) as well as environmental and productivity savings (reduces pollution, congestion and wasted time). As part of our commitment to sustainability, DA employees also have the ability to check out bikes if they need to attend a meeting off-site.

According to recent figures, more than a million residents in the Bay Area lives within a five mile radius of their workplace. Commuting trips only account for 23% of all those taken with a car, so if our employees are not able to bike to work today, we're encouraging them to use their bike to run one errand in place of a car this week.

For Bike to Work Day 2015, there are hundreds of 'Energizer Stations' across the nine Bay Area counties providing refreshments and prizes. A map of those in Alameda County can be found here.
