Meet DA Nancy E. O'Malley

People v Jahton Green

On June 23, 2015, a jury found defendant Jahton Green guilty of two counts of robbery, with an enhancement for inflicting Great Bodily Injury, and one count of elder abuse.

On August 22, 2013, defendant Green brutally beat two elderly men in separate robberies. Both victims were walking alone on the street in Berkeley when defendant Green, without any warning, physically assaulted them with his hands and fists, before taking their property and fleeing the scene.

The first victim was attacked by defendant Green sometime between 4:30 and 5pm, while walking along Harper Street between Russell and Ashby. A few minutes after passing by a man wearing a blue shirt, the victim felt a powerful blow from behind that knocked him to the ground facedown. The victim turned over and saw the same person he had just walked past standing over him. The person forced him to empty his pockets and fled with money. The victim required hospitalization for injuries sustained during the crime, and was able to positively identify defendant Green as the person who violently robbed him.

Defendant Green’s second victim was attacked at about 7pm that same evening. The victim was walking in the area of Los Angeles Street near the Marin Circle when he was approached by defendant Green, wearing the same blue shirt. Defendant Green asked for directions twice. As the victim continued walking down the street, defendant Green approached him again and punched him in the face multiple times, knocking him to the ground. Defendant took the victim's cell phone and a key purse, but overlooked his wallet. The victim sustained fractures to his right wrist and facial bone during the attack, requiring surgery. The victim was able to identify defendant Green in court.

The prosecutor was DDA Scott Ford with assistance from DA Inspector Paul Balzouman and Victim-Witness Advocate Dena Aindow.
