Meet DA Nancy E. O'Malley

2015 National Night Out

National Night Out is a yearly event that takes place in more than 16,000 communities across the United States. Each participating neighborhood hosts a block party, cookout or other event to unite those living in the area. The aim of National Night Out is to encourage neighbors to interact with each other and to foster neighborhood spirit and camaraderie, thereby making a community safer.

Each year, teams from the District Attorney’s Office participate in our local National Night Out festivities and this year’s event was held on Tuesday, August 4. Our teams visited a number of National Night Out block parties around the county, along with representatives from law enforcement, local government, and other community organizations.

“Our aim in visiting these neighborhoods throughout the county is to engage with members of community, to listen to their concerns and to let them know how the District Attorney’s Office can help them,” said Chief of DA Inspectors, Robert Chenault.

“We have been attending these events for years and are always proud to support such a great community building event as National Night Out. It is a great opportunity to inform our community members all about the work we do outside of prosecution, such as providing services for victims of crime through our innovative Victim-Witness Assistance Division and the Alameda County Family Justice Center, as well as our numerous restorative justice programs,” Chief Chenault said.

Each team from the DA’s Office visited a number of block parties throughout the evening, and enjoyed the opportunity to meet with community members throughout Alameda County. We hope our neighborhoods continue to grow and foster the bonds forged on National Night Out throughout the year.
