Meet DA Nancy E. O'Malley

People v Israel Gonzalez Mendez

On April 2, 2015, Israel Gonzalez Mendez was sentenced after pleading no contest to forcible rape and two counts of forcible oral copulation.

On October 9, 2006, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the victim was walking alone to a taco truck located on International Blvd. in Oakland. While the victim was in the immediate vicinity of the taco truck, defendant Mendez pulled up in a car, held a knife to her side and forced her into his car. Defendant Mendez drove the victim to an isolated location where he raped her and forced her to orally copulate him while he held a knife to her throat and intermittently choked her during the assault. When defendant Mendez got out of the car to put his clothes on, the victim got out of the car and ran off to get help. A passing motorist picked up the victim and took her to Highland Hospital where she underwent a sexual assault exam and gave a written statement to police.

Defendant Mendez was identified by a DNA hit following his conviction of two counts of forcible rape in San Francisco County. He is currently serving 9 years in state prison for the San Francisco convictions. Upon completion of that sentence, defendant Mendez will start his sentence of 19 years for this rape and sexual assault. Defendant Mendez will also register as a sexual offender for his lifetime.

The case was prosecuted by DDA Erin Kingsbury.
