CVS Settlement Dec 23, 2013

Alameda County D.A. Settles Civil Lawsuit Ensuring CVS Stores Consult With All Consumers of Prescription Drugs

Oakland, California – Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley announced today that the Office’s Consumer and Environmental Protection Division, along with Riverside and San Diego District Attorneys’ Offices and the California State Board of Pharmacy, has settled a $658,500 lawsuit against the owners, Garfield Beach CVS, LLC, and Longs Drugs Stores, California, LLC, of 850 California CVS-branded pharmacies for failing to conduct one-on-one pharmacy consultations when customers receive new prescriptions drugs.

D.A.’s Office Reaches $1.8m Settlement Dec 5, 2013

October 2013 National Drug Take Back Day Oct 18, 2013

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, in partnership with the US Drug Enforcement Administration, is participating in the second Prescription Drug Take Back event of this year on Saturday, October 26. Alameda County residents are encouraged to bring their unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medication to the Alameda County Family Justice Center or the Hayward Hall of Justice from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for safe disposal.

AB 535 Amends Amber Alert System Sep 24, 2013

Nancy O’Malley, Alameda County District Attorney, is pleased to announce that on September 23, 2013, Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 535 which expands the circumstances under which the Emergency Alert System, known use AMBER Alert, can be activated. AB 535 was sponsored by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and the County of Alameda. It was authored by Assemblymember Bill Quirk (D-Hayward). Under the existing law, an AMBER Alert was activated by the CHP only when a child was taken by a non-custodial parent or stranger abduction. AB 535 NOW allows the AMBER Alert to be activated when law enforcement has credible information to believe anyone, including a parent or guardian who has full custody of a child, takes the child away with the intent to cause serious bodily injury or death to that child.

AB 307 Protecting Victims of Sexual Assault Sep 10, 2013

On September 9, 2013 Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 307, vital legislation that allows criminal courts to issue restraining orders protecting sexual assault victims from their assailants. This bill was authored by Assembly Speaker pro Tempore Nora Campos (D-San Jose) and co-sponsored by Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley and the California District Attorneys Association.

SB 130 Extends Support to Victims of Crime Jun 28, 2013

On June 28, 2013, Governor Jerry Brown signed SB 130 into law. This bill, written by State Senator Ellen Corbett and co-sponsored by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, expands the list of criminal charges for which a prosecuting witness may have a support person present while testifying.

Jury Convicts 4 North Oakland Gang Members Apr 30, 2013

On April 29, 2013, Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O'Malley announced that a jury found defendants Stephon Anthony, Rafael Campbell, Samuel Flowers and Anthony Price guilty of first degree murder with gang enhancements, use of a gun, and special circumstances for the May, 2009 killing of Charles Davis. The defendants were also found guilty of two counts of second degree murder for the killings of Todd Perea and Floyd Ross Jr. Additionally, each defendant was found guilty of two felony counts of causing death during the flight from a pursuing peace officer.

Justice Academy 2013 Jan 23, 2013

The District Attorney’s Justice Academy is a program established by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and the East Bay Youth and Family Initiatives in 2011. This program provides high school students ages 16 to 18 with the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the Justice System by participating in seminars and internships. During the spring and summer of 2013, two Academies are being held, one in the Tri-Valley area and the other in the Eden Area of Alameda County.

4 Plead Guilty to String of West Oakland Robberies Jan 16, 2013

On January 16, 2013, Tajari Wooten, Jamari Wooten, Kameron Cann, and Kent Scott plead guilty to a combined 25 counts of robbery, along with several weapons enhancements. From December 18, 2010 to February 25, 2011 the defendants committed ten different take-over robberies primarily in West Oakland.

$111K Settlement in Childcare Fraud Case Jan 11, 2013

Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O'Malley announced that today her Office will deliver a settlement of $111,389.62 in restitution to the California Department of Education. The restitution is the result of a criminal prosecution of child care fraud filed by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office in July of 2012, and settled by way of negotiated disposition on January 7, 2012. This settlement represents the largest single child care fraud restitution order in Alameda County history.
