Consumer & Environmental Protection

The Consumer and Environmental Protection Division of the District Attorney’s Office focuses primarily on cases involving fraud (and other economic crimes), environmental violations, crimes against elders and unfair business practices.

The Division pursues both criminal and civil prosecutions and is divided into the following units:

  • Consumer protection, including, for example: deceptive advertising, employer fraud, tax evasion, and other economic crimes committed by businesses
  • Environmental protection
  • Real estate fraud, including mortgage fraud, see Tips to Avoid Real Estate Fraud Brochure (English) (Spanish), and our H.E.L.P. program (English)
  • Insurance fraud, including fraud in the following areas: workers’ compensation, automobile insurance, annuity and life insurance, and health care
  • Elder abuse, including both economic and violent crimes. (Elder Abuse Brochure)
