District Attorney
Alameda County
Nancy E. O'Malley, District Attorney

About Us

The District Attorney’s Office is comprised of 156 attorneys and 66 inspectors, as well as specialists in victim and witness assistance and a variety of support professionals. Divisions of the Office include Criminal, Juvenile, Consumer & Welfare Fraud, and Victim/Witness Assistance. We also have units specializing in the areas of gangs, sexual assault, human trafficking, truancy, identity theft, DNA, and child abduction. Our jurisdiction covers 813 square miles and our attorneys and staff work in 10 offices located throughout the County.

In the past year, the attorneys in our office handled over 35,000 felony and misdemeanor cases. Our felony prosecutors secured convictions in 94% of the cases taken to trial, and in 98% of the murder, attempted murder, rape and robbery cases tried before a jury.

The District Attorney’s Office is a statewide leader in victims’ rights and assistance. In the 2008 fiscal year, our Restitution Unit obtained over 1,100 restitution orders on behalf of crime victims in Alameda County totaling nearly $10 million, making our program the most successful in the State. We also offer our community unique victim services such as the new criminal docket finder and the innovative Family Justice Center, a one-stop shop for victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault and human trafficking.
